Their first day was awesome. I didn’t hear from them directly but I could just tell. They left around 9 and got into camp around 1. There will be plenty of time left in the day to recoup from the 4 miles of slight up hill. They are camping tonight at whopping 6500 feet. Normally it is just awesome to camp that high but with the wild fire smoke, I have a feeling there are little or no views to be had. I wonder if they will be able to enjoy the Perseid meteor shower. Brian texted, “Arrived at high camp near grasshopper pass. Hung The prayer flags near a beautiful Alpine Meadow.” The prayer flags the hikers are carrying along with them contain the messages of virtual hikers; parkies that can’t make it, loved ones and memories of others too.
