Trip leader Hiro reported Saturday for the Trip 6 team:

“Day 2 began at 8:15 a.m. with a cool water crossing and then the climb began. We climbed a total of 2,966 feet today with 103 feet down. We set up camp at Lake Mary for two nights. We plan on day hiking tomorrow.

“Today was beautiful with no smoke. We had a few clouds and a breeze keeping it from being too terribly hot on our climb.

“Everyone is doing well. We passed three trail runners running our whole route in one day! We also passed 20 horses.

“We have a high-end bathroom at this camp. It is a throne with a view, and a lot of fresh air!

“We were rewarded for our climb today with a view of Glacier Peak.

“Eric is on his second day now of perfecting the skill of eating his food with a stick as he forgot his spoon. He will be a pro by the end of this trip and will be ready to give lessons in this skill to those interested!

“Ok, just now, after Eric has been eating soup and granola with a stick, Hiro has offered him a spoon! ‘Where were you last night?’ Eric exclaimed. Sad to say Eric will no longer be giving eating with a stick lessons.”

Trip 3

Assistant trip leader Abby reported:

“The Trip 3 team woke up with the sun today, enjoying a slow morning with breakfast and coffee. Carol showed Abby how to make ‘poor man’s coffee.’ Cheryl was trying to get a cute picture kissing llama Warf, but Warf decided to ruin the photo by sneezing in her face! After she washed off the llama snot, the Trip 3 team set out for the 7-mile hike from Sand Lake to Snow Lake.

“Llama Amos was being a little pushy, but Lynn made sure to keep him in line. We encountered many horses today with no difficulty. [Llamas can spook horses.]

“After hiking 4 miles, we had lunch at Pipe Lake, where everyone tanned in the sun at the beach. After lunch, the group hiked the last 3 miles and set up camp at Snow Lake. We set up all the chairs in a circle and are enjoying the nice weather and good company for the rest of the night!”
