Trip 4 assistant leader, Eric sent additional texts last night.
“Lakeside camp is beautiful. The afternoon breeze is keeping smoke away. We met a northbound thru hiker on the trail with trail name ,’Scout#2′ in deference to PasstoPass’s own famous Scout He knew of Scout & Frodo but hadn’t met them and was impressed by their association with PasstoPass.” Scout ( Barney) and Frodo ( Sandy) will be leading Trip 8 this year at the Esmeraldo Basin near Cle Elum.
“Andy wants to emphasize that the fact the longhorn beetle landed on him was a good omen for our trip. (He’s an entomologist.) A ladybug landed on Eric, also a good luck omen. Last night quite cold; tonight too. ”
The group is discussing options for tomorrow including a possible zero day here. Today was particularly tiring for some.
Good morning. We are taking a zero day at Snow Lake. Cold and heavy dew this morning. Weather outlook uncertain. Hoping for 70s and sunny. Cheers. Well, it is cold and raining. So we’re all hiding out in our tents, enjoying the sound of the rain. “
Eric reported this evening about their day at camp. ” Chill day; off and on rain with some blue clouds and sun. We took naps in tents and played some cribbage games. Thunderstorms are threatening but good spirits all around.”

Trip 10 in Oregon concludes today.
Last night’s photo of llama wrangler, Lisa Wolf, reading from her book had me search for her book. It is Wahoo’s training manual for wannabe pack llamas by Lisa Wolf.
Summary: Too bashful to talk to humans and certain she has no business calling herself a trainer, the trainer still must find a way to get her young llamas to behave themselves. Encouraged by her llama, Wahoo, she keeps at it. Very soon strange things begin to happen as images and thought that are not her own begin surfacing in her mind. With humor and insight the llamas show the trainer their own special view of the world and make it clear that humans do not run the show. This true story will add volumes to what you know about llamas and how to work with them.
Lisa with her partners run Burns Llama Trailblazers. She graciously gives her time and expertise to accompany us on the Oregon trips with her llamas with just a traveling fee and in-kind donation. She is also featured in the Outside magazine article in 2023 called ” The Llama Whisperer.“
No final word tonight from Trip 10 as they leave the trail. I think they had a feast at the trailhead and headed home.
