Trip leader Katie reported late Wednesday morning:
“The Trip 5 team hit the trail at 10:45 a.m. Llamas are stoked and ready to go. Hikers are bright eyed and excited.”
The evening update:
“The Trip 5 team made it to Sand Lake around 12:30 p.m. and spent a leisurely day setting up camp and exploring. Weather is beautiful and the llamas have already made a ton of trail friends.
“We are currently eating dinner and enjoying some deep conversation fueled by a game called Wild Card. We’re all going to be very close by the end of this trip!

“The topic of the day has been gratitude and how lucky we are to experience such a beautiful place and fantastic people.”
Today the team hiked approximately 3 miles from White Pass Trailhead to the Sand Lake campsite.
The Trip 5 team is hiking an alternate route because of trail conditions. Trip 5 now covers approximately 30 miles over six days from White Pass Trailhead to Chinook Pass Trailhead (same as Trips 3 and 4). Originally, the Trip 5 route was Berry Patch to Walupt Lake in the Goat Rocks Wilderness.
