We strive to offer you a exhilarating, joyful, safe experience and have developed several important steps in the process of your application and acceptance for a PasstoPass hike.
- You fill out the contact form after looking at the website, particularly the FAQs and Hike Details.
- You will have a phone interview with Brian, our administrator for recruitment, usually within a day or two after we receive your contact form. Questions include your PD, your overall health, backpacking experience and answers to your questions,
- Then an application form (either PD hiker or Support hiker) is sent to your email. It arrives from AdobeSign . AdobeReader, a free reader makes the form readable and allows you to fill in the blanks and auto-sign the liability form. When you have completed the form, you click FINISH and a copy is sent to you and PasstoPass.
- Your application is read and reviewed, we may call you for additional details.
- If your PD symptoms or health issue need clarification, we may ask you to take a virtual evaluation with Rose, our physical therapist with expertise with PD. She is a Dr. of Physical Therapy in New York with clinical experience as well as leading regional hikes in Long Island and participating in our summer hikes.
- If your backpacking experience is weak or not very recent, we may ask you to take a day hike with one of our previous hikers in your region or attend a regional day hike for evaluation. We may also have the trip leader or other volunteer go over the required equipment and exercise regimen to be in shape prior to the hike.
- You will receive an email that you are accepted. It will confirm the trip that you are assigned to, your trip leader name and contact information and basic details about preparation for the trip.
- You are expected to participate in the virtual meetings prior to your hike led by your trip leader. It is a time to clarify details and to get to know your fellow hikers and be responsible to report your exercise plan and how it is going.
- You are responsible for getting yourself to and from the trailhead. The team will discuss ways to share transportation and a hotel room or campsite the night prior to the hike.
- We realize that life is unpredictable and family and health issues may occur. It is imperative that you inform us of any changes in your plans or health. Our trips are quite small in number and every spot for a hiker is important.
- We do not charge you any fees, but as a volunteer non-profit, we encourage you to DONATE and tell your friends and family about us. It is strictly at your comfort level.
- Welcome to the PasstoPass community of hikers with Parkinson’s.
