Trip 7 hikers at the White Pass trailhead

Trip 10

Trip leader Hiro reports for the Trip 10 team: “Another perfect weather day with gorgeous views. Arrived at tonight’s camp (a meadow by the Snowy Lakes trailhead) around 3 p.m. We will day hike to the lakes tomorrow.

“One more story … Horses? Elk? Bear?  Awakened by stomping sounds by our tents around 1 a.m. This morning we saw footprints by our tents. Maybe loose llamas?”

The Trip 10 team is halfway through their adventure. Today they hiked approximately 6 miles with about 1800 feet of elevation gain. All these hikers are carrying full packs — no llamas.

Trip 7

The Trip 7 team assembled at the White Pass trailhead today and received a crash course on saddling and handling llamas. Then they covered the first leg of their itinerary: roughly 3.5 miles and about 800 feet of elevation gain.

From trip leader Katie: “Made it to Sand Lake in under two hours. The huckleberries are popping and everyone has blue lips and fingers. The weather is beautiful and the llamas are being little angels. We saw so many frogs on the trail! Everyone is doing great and the team is looking strong. We are enjoying our dinner and comparing meals. Spirits are high and we are ready for tomorrow.”

The Trip 7 team is hiking approximately 29 miles over six days from White Pass trailhead to Chinook Pass trailhead, with llamas. On Monday, they are scheduled to hike about 7 miles from Sand Lake to Snow Lake.

Special shout out to our trail angels, who were at the trailhead to assist with llamas and see the Trip 7 team off.

Trip 13

Trip leader Rich reports: “The group all arrived at Big Lake campground. Couple of warm days ahead. Looking forward to Monday morning start for Santiam Loop hike.”

Our Oregon team is hiking the Santiam Pass Loop via Marion Lake. They will cover 28 miles over six days, with llamas.
