Trip 7

Trip leader Katie reports: “Hit the trail by 8:40 a.m. and the Trip 7 team put some miles under their feet! After breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and the Goat Rocks, the group decided to push on and spend nights 4 and 5 at Dewey Lake. The team showed off their fitness level by hiking 9 miles today!

“Everyone has spent time bonding with the llamas and llama Faramir makes friends with all the thru hikers. He’s probably trying to figure out how he can stay on the trail longer!

“We are settling in for an evening of tasty backpacking meals and the start of a Yuker tournament. We will keep you posted on the champion!”

Trip 13

Trip leader Rich reports this evening for the Trip 13 team: “Stayed camped at Jorn Lake for the day. Climbed Red Butte, 5843 feet. Group now off to Blue Lake for a swim.”

Summitpost.org says of Red Butte (photo above): “ … this hikeable summit lies in the Eight Lakes Region just northwest of Three Fingered Jack, which means you get great views of that Cascade classic and a pleasant hike among beautiful bodies of water. The view of Three Fingered Jack is one that most never see as the standard route for climbers and the main highway for passersby in the area lies to the south while Red Butte is on the northwest flank of that Cascade volcano. You also get views of volcanoes from Broken Top to Jefferson. … Don’t get confused with other Red Buttes in Oregon (and more still in other states).”

Congratulations to the Trip 10 team!

The Trip 10 team came off the trail today, successfully hiking approximately 28 miles from Hart’s Pass trailhead to Rainy Pass trailhead with no llama support. Trip leader Hiro shared some photos.
