Trip leader Linda reported mid-afternoon Sunday: “Another beautiful day in Goat Rocks! All but two of us hiked up towards Old Snowy, gaining another 1,000 feet in elevation that rewarded us with views of Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier.
“There was a little bit of smoke haze in the air hiding Mt. St. Helens from us, but that did not diminish our exhilaration in what we did see. Two of our support people made the climb all the way up to Old Snowy.
“Dave and Amy stayed back at camp on llama duty. Llama Amos longed for greener pasture and broke his tether to satisfy his desire. Dave and Amy were heroes for the day as they rounded Amos up and put him back with llamas Worf, Zoe, and Faramir. They even put them in some really nice pasture!
“Lunch was had back at camp, and now Dave is leading several hikers on a short hiking loop. Gotta get those miles in! It is mid afternoon and the cribbage has begun!”
According to Google, “‘Old Snowy’ refers to Old Snowy Mountain, a 7,880-foot peak in the Goat Rocks Wilderness of Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest, known for … spectacular views.”
