Derek reported last night after they hiked in from the trailhead:
We made it 4 miles in along Lyell Creek. We saw Yogi (Bear) but no Winnie ( the Pooh). It may be an 8 mile day tomorrow. The 3 Musketeers live on!
This afternoon we heard back about today’s hike:
Today’s vital statistics: 7.5 miles and 1,864 altitude gain. Hiking time about 5 hours, the gain was steep!
We got held up and robbed by a family of marmots. They were straight out of western movie! Legit!

Bear (big black bear) sighting was confirmed and hikers behind us said we missed him by a hot minute. He was inspecting the previous night’s camp spot, tasty? But Jon and I have seen him before on the last trip we took here.
Now we are napping after setting up camp. There is a strong breeze running through camp as we are at 10,429, sunset at 8:13.
The swashbuckling 3 Musketeers are reminiscing of past thrilling adventures with PasstoPass, as collectively we have been on 38 trips!!!!!
What’s your count? Or do you need to sign up for one?
The Hulk (the first Musketeer and most handsome too).
As usual Derek ( trail name Hulk) is full of mischief and good will making his blogs posts second best to actually being out there and hiking.
Hiro is a fantastic photographer as well as hiker and I am sharing some of his Sierra photos from the 2025 PtP JMT hike.

You 3 are amazing!! Wish I was there, bears and all.
Stay strong.
