Trip 3

The Trip 3 team also successfully completed their hike and exited the trail this afternoon.

Congratulations!

This group was greeted by trail angels Sandy and Deb at Chinook Pass Trailhead.

Trip 10

Trip leader Brian reported late Wednesday morning for the Trip 10 team:

“Great weather and clear blue skies continue. Camped at Mesa Springs last night on the edge of a beautiful meadow and stream. Hiking to Reese Lake tonight. Looking forward to viewing the meteor shower tonight with dark skies and clear air! Fun times being had by all with time flying by. Despite poor air quality in the general region, ours is exceptionally clear!

The evening update is:

“Day 3: Mesa Springs to Reese Lake, ~4 miles. Camped on the northwest flank of South Sister with a priceless view of same. Tons of sun with a few clouds to punctuate pictures. Reversal of directions for out and back begins here but we will never get tired of this scenery.”

What’s next?

Following the conclusion of Trip 3, the llamas were hauled to White Pass Trailhead Horse Camp. They will spend the night there with trail angels Sandy and Deb.

Starting Thursday, the llamas will support the Trip 4 team as they hike an alternate route because of trail conditions. Trip 4 now covers approximately 30 miles over six days from White Pass Trailhead to Chinook Pass Trailhead (same as Trip 3). Originally, the Trip 4 route was Walupt Lake to Berry Patch in the Goat Rocks Wilderness.

The Trip 5 route has been changed, too. This team will also now hike from White Pass Trailhead to Chinook Pass Trailhead (same as Trip 3 and 4). Originally, the Trip 5 route was Berry Patch to Walupt Lake in the Goat Rocks Wilderness.

Alternate routes are also under consideration for Trips 8 and 9. Pete Lake has become a staging area for wildfire crews.
